These are a favourite in our house #sourdough starter crackers ~ so quick and easy to make… the hard part is not to eat the whole batch in one sitting. You can change the flavours by adding different herbs, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, cracked peppercorns (use a mortar and pestle as this makes them sweeter), sunflower seeds.
Below are some snapshots of the process 🙂
Crackers – Sourdough Crackers
These crackers are made from discarded Sourdough starter. Quick to whip up and so tasty.
Ingredients
- 220 grams discarded Sourdough – straight from the fridge
- 20 grams melted butter or olive oil
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs or herbs of your choice
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds or sesame seeds or garlic powder or onion powder add another teaspoon of mixed herbs optional
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda – sifted
- 1 tablespoon Golden linseeds optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 150 deg C on fan bake.
- Mix all ingredients together.
- Place baking paper on oven tray. Spread out cracker mixiture, this should be a thin layer over baking paper, sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 10 mins, remove and score into squares, a pizza cutter works well for this.
- Return to oven and bake for around 15 – 25 mins till golden brown (depends on how hot your oven is).
Notes
Try swapping out the mixed herbs with cracked peppercorns or roasted cumin seeds and/or, try adding a small amount of grated parmesan cheese.
